Something is seriously wrong with the design of the 5x Plus!!!

Hi,

bought a Fenix 5x plus and immediately noticed the following sequence of problems. This has happened to me with 2 Fenix 5x plus watches. each was connected to a different Mac and a different iPhone:

1- At first the watch and phone pair just fine.
2- When I connect the watch to my Mac it doesn't show on the desktop as a drive as the Fenix 5 used to do but Garmin Express sees it and is able to deal with it normally except that it doesn't eject the device when I right-click it in the application's home screen and select "eject device" and that's when the "eject device' option is not grayed out which also happens a lot. To be safe, I always shut down the computer before unplugging the watch.
3- after 2 days of use, the Bluetooth connection with the phone (or any other device like BT headphones or the RD Pod) can no longer be established.

The first time that happened, I spoke with tech support and their diagnosis that Bluetooth on the device is defective and sent me the forms to send the watch back which I did.

I did not expect that this would happen again when I bought the second watch on a whim (thinking I may sell the extra or just keep both) but the same exact sequence of problems mentioned above happened again with the second watch.

Am I doing something wrong (apart from giving my money to Garmin) or is there something really wrong with their manufacturing processes?

Seems that your desire to rush to market with this product has been at an unnecessary high cost to me and a profit to you.

Garmin please let us know your response to this.

additional info:
web updater doesn't see the watch which made it impossible to install the update suggested by tech support. tried installing it through 2 different Macs and one windows machine with the same results for BOTH watches.

Thanks,

Hassan
  • I use the 5xplus with an Android phone. No issues.
  • Also use with an Android phone. No bluetooth issues.

For file transfer on a Mac, you need android file transfer because apple doesn't natively support MTP protocol. Most likely because they don't want to make it easy to use other MP3 type devices in their ecosystem.
  • What is seriously wrong with the design... ??

1-Zero issue with a Samsung Galaxy S8 here too. Could it be an Apple seriously wrong design ?
2-And a little search would point you on Android File Transfer which works great on my Mac. Zero issue again.

Like they say: "At the second shipwreck, do not blame the sea ..."
