Upgrade to Fenix 5 Plus?

I have been researching the new line of Fenix 5 Plus to possibly upgrade to but from what I am reading on the site most if not all are unhappy with battery life? I put battery life pretty high on the list of things I want in a GPS watch as I run ultras. Am I wrong with thinking this way? Is it a buy or wait until next generation?
  • most ppl come to forums cos they have issues.. so high amount of forums posts are negative out of the many number of ppl who buys the watch.
In addition to that, IMHO, most ppl (that don't come to the forums) buy it cos it's new and shiny and all that but may not even touch 50% of the features that the watch has. (Pulse Ox for eg).

The MTP is only an issue on Apple computers. Windows works fine. I was stumped as well, but it was a happy discovery that an easy fix was available. Unfortuantely for the garmin support crew to not know that tho.

If perhaps the forum post was written as "don't buy the 5x plus..." if you cannot / unwilling to do these things and/or expect it to work as is. I have to admit tho, Garmin SW and hardware is at times buggy and lacks the polish finish.

Oh well.. I'm still on Garmin.. but next time, perhaps it would be the Xiaomi Amazefit Stratos... cheap and marks quite a lot of check-boxes (check out the5krunner review on it. also has quite a number of friends using it)

  • Now leaving that MTP thing aside, that doesn't explain why Bluetooth would stop working. So, since it seems you know everything, can you explain why would Bluetooth stop working on 2 different devices. the only available explanation is bad design or manufacturing. I would like to hear yours.

    Hassan,
if you haven't try it you should load the last Beta 4.65 because there is at least one report about fixing the bluetooth issues with your Iphone, look at this quote:

After a few hours with v4.65, it appears that the Bluetooth communication between Apple IOS and the 5X Plus has been improved. The app no longer needs to be open on the phone to receive Weather and Calendar data updates.

I will have to test things a bit further to see if battery life is impacted, if the music feature drops or skips while a Bluetooth connection is established with the iPhone during activity, or of the RD Pod, Foot Pod, or other ANT+ sensors interfere.

Looks good so far, assuming there hasn't been any other regression, but please fix the CIQ date bug!
