Fenix 5X Plus - 4.61 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5X Plus users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5X Plus: https://www8.garmin.com/support/down...s.jsp?id=14335

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

4.61 Change Log Notes:
  • Fixed several bugs found within the new music player.
  • Fixed an issue where the user could not start navigating a recent activity from the App options menu.
  • The attached GPS FW (2.23) should improve pace accuracy for running/walking activities and track performance for open water swimming activities.
Our public beta users are encouraged to load the new GPS firmware and use it for their next activities. If there are any activities where the GPS performance did not improve, we would like to see them. This also includes if comparing to previous activities. To send data to us for evaluation, please include the following in an email to "][email protected]:
  • FIT file(s) from Garmin\Activity folder
    • FIT files from previous activities if comparing same routes

  • GarminDevice.XML from the Garmin folder
  • Subject line of email must use the following format: ‘Fenix 5+ Series - GPS 2.23 Evaluation - DATE_ForumUserID_ActivityType’ (ex. "20180823_odsweng_Walk")
Following these instructions will ensure your email and files are delivered and sorted correctly. Lastly, you will not get an email reply unless we need more information from you, but rest assured, the data sent will be evaluated.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 Plus series you have in the subject line.
  • Would love to try it in OWS but beta says it is not suitable for APAC models. Don't want to risk it
  • please, tell us what settings did you use?
    1) GPS
    2) GPS + GLONASS
    3) GPS + GALILEO

    thanks!

You just copy the files from the beta to the corresponding directories on the watch as seen in the instructions, so gupdate.gcd (the main FW) goes into \primary\garmin for example, and the other bits into \primary\garmin\remotesw

Hey so the directories of the watch are the ones on the Android transfer file right ?
  • Hi, same issue here with the Garmin Pay

anybody else having an issue with the date being incorrect? I am on the Eastern coast of Aus so have my timezone set as GMT +10 in Garmin connect. My iPhone is set to the same. Right now, it is 0743 on the 26th Aug and my watch is showing Sat 25th. I have manually sync'd the time with GPS but no change. I have rebooted the watch with no change.
  • TheOtherPhil, Have you been outside and got a setellite lock since the update? I’m just wondering if the software update has somehow reset the last stored GPS location in the watch from which it sets the time zone. When I’ve done overseas travel the watch timezone is usually updated by GCM first, but if not it adjusts after GPS lock in the new location.

I have not done a GPS fix per se, but I have selected sync time via GPS in which it gained a satellite fix. I’d assume this would also adjust the time zone.

Yeah, that should have done it. Aside of a forced power off (20 second hold of the light button), which I’ve often found to clear all manner of settings oddness after a software update, I think you’d be best wrapping your experience up in an email to the beta team.
