Fenix 5S vs. 5S Plus

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the strap that comes with the 5S Plus the same width/length as the one that came with the 5S? Does the watch feel the same on the wrist? Do the lugs on the watch stick out like they did on the old version?

Thanks

Yes, the strap that comes with the 5S Plus is the same width (20mm)/length as the one that came with the 5S. The only difference I can see is the design on the strap itself. I prefer using one of my aftermarket straps from the 5S.

It's a shame they didn't use the strap from the 645 so that more men could wear it, or provide two different versions.

On the Garmin site, the black band is available in regular length and "large".
  • If you are a runner, do not buy the 5s plus for now. It is still beta. essential features for training aren‘t working. My fr 735xt is a lot better

What do you mean by "essential"? Do these features work on the F5+?
  • I believe soss3osp means the virtual partner which apparently isn’t working at the moment. Whilst I agree that garmin ought to fix this I don’t see it as a vital feature for running training. i’m perfectly happy training for a marathon without it. each to their own I suppose…

I disagree. I am a serious runner and am not missing any features I need with the 5S Plus. Its size and weight work well for running. My only complaint is battery life.
  • I agree with dewarner too!

If you can live with the chunkiness (it's thick, though you don't feel it, you will see it slightly) it's absolutely fine for running.

Feature wise I can't see what is missing?

(Besides from native Power support in run profiles, but that's a whole different story)

Battery drain is a problem though! I guess it will be fixed essentially...?
  • If they put a man-size strap option on the 5S Plus I would consider it. It's a shame they also didn't do a lighter weight titanium version. The girly strap they put on the old 5S was too short, too narrow and didn't support the heft of the watch when you get sweaty, speaking from personal experience.

    Hi

I would not just base the buying decision on the size and straps as being honest apart from cosmetics, its the same watch.

You need to take into account the extra features the Plus has and decide if you need or want them. You also need to take into account the reduce battery on the 5s Plus
