Since update to 4.20 im having really exagerated hours of sleep, here you have 15 and 12 hours of sleeping, when i went to the bed after 0:00 (so less than 8 hours of sleep each day...), you can see there is no movement after 0:00...

  • I'm not having these sort of issues with the 5 Plus and 4.2 though with my Fenix 5 I did previously have random 'extra' sleep issues. I do find that if I am awake and not 'out of bed' that often this does show as asleep so I am guessing that movement is a big influence on sleep time.

Well, Synced again via Connect and voila, more hours of sleep tracking, now i have 16 hours (after launch had 12h), this purple around 17:00 is a snap i took. So looking it for the good side now i have naps recorder...?? :/

  • I seem to have the same problem - typically any time sitting down seems to get counted as being asleep. Problem seemed to coincide with 4.2 update (started on Thursday last week).
The issue seems to be that it misses the wake time, yesterday I got up a couple of hours later than usual (8:00), went for a 10km run (having driven to the start) and then had a typical quiet Sunday from about midday. My watch registers me waking up after 18:00 in the evening!
  • I do not think that the anomalies in the sleep analysis are related to the update 4.20 because the first errors date from June 28, 2018.

Mine has been spot on in 4.2 and is still fine in 4.59.

For me this problem started with 4.2. Today i woke up at 6.54 and got a correct measurement. Went to work, checked the data at 11 AM and Garmin added the 4 hours to the sleep period (including 'awake'). Had to manually change the time i woke up back to 6.54.

I've had the older Fenix 5s for over a year and since the implementation of REM sleep tracking a few weeks /month(s) ago things got really messy. Before that sleep tracking has greatly improved over the last year. I use a Fitbit also, and Fitbit's sleep tracking is really amazing. And Garmin went from being at least 1hour more to being maximum 10-20min more than Fitbit. But since REM it got really worse. At least 1h more than Fitbit every time, sometimes 90-120minutes.

Then I tested a Vivoactive 3 and things got a bit better, but not close to the data before the REM sleep tracking. Still 20-30minutes at least more than the Fitbit.

Since yesterday I own a Fenix 5s Plus (FW 4.20) and sleep was pretty accurate for the first time in weeks/month(s). Was almost exactly like Fitbit's data, although the phases itself showed different numbers. Pretty happy, but it was the first night. I will have to watch it.
  • I think my problem was that my sleep and wake times seemed to get lost when I updated to 4.2. In garmin connect, on the sleep dashboard it wanted me to re confirm these times (although the defaults were what I had before). Since doing this it seems to be ok. Never had this problem with my FR235 - so much for the fenix's "advanced" sleep tracking...
  • sleep analysis has deteriorated significantly from the update with REM sleep.
