Really bad sleep tracking since 4.20

Since update to 4.20 im having really exagerated hours of sleep, here you have 15 and 12 hours of sleeping, when i went to the bed after 0:00 (so less than 8 hours of sleep each day...), you can see there is no movement after 0:00...

  • Sleep Tracking is indeed horrible. In my case even before 4.20. When i get up in the morning, walking around and synchronizing my fenix with the smartphone and repeat synchronization all 15 minutes, my values change at least three times. It may happen that REM Phase is higher, deep sleep Phase is lower and Vice versa. That the whole sleeping time gets longer or shorter. This is annoying. And every time synchronization seems to be Perfect.

I can confirm that since updating to 4.20 sleeptracking is another mess on this watch :(
  • The pictures above does not show movement but Fenix estimation of your sleep level based on what I believe your movement, HR, and user settings (normal Wake and bed time).

Did you by any chance have your normal bed time set to 10:30 or something and you were then without movement and/or close to resting HR? my understanding of sleep tracking could be wrong, but the watch may have simply assumed you were sleeping. :)

I’m simply objectively proposing another explanation than the “Garmin team screwed up this one too”.
  • the problem existed before the update 4.20. (see previous discussion, https://forums.garmin.com/forum/on-the-trail/wrist-worn/fenix-5-5s-plus/1373853-huge-mistake-in-sleep-analysis)

Sleep monitoring is good with VIVOACTIVE HR and catastrophic with FENIX 5+

In the images you see lot of movement (pink) that corresponds with long walkings. Curiously it shows/recorded the snap sleep too (after lunch, in purple), all the blue corresponds to me at desk (understood by the graph as "light sleep"). My settings are 23:00-7:00.

Sleep tracking seems to work really well for me both before and after 4.20. It accurately reflect bed time and wake time and picks up on times I was up in the night.
I've still not found any value in the data - I know when I'm tired or not - so not sure what use it is at all, but at least it seems reasonably close to what I experience.
  • Ok, this is taken from Garmin Connect webpage. I agree you can say the pink (awake) bars equal movement. But now I don't understnad how you got to show the sleep level for a 24 hour window from 09:22 am to 09:11 am. I don't think it should show up like this if bed and wake time is set for a more narrow time period.

Well, i didn't do anything special, just check my sleep....that's the problem, and it shows 15 and 14 hours of sleep for these 2 days...
  • I browsed some previous days and found an odd date where sleep tracking disregarded the bed and wake time altogether. So I was wrong in that assumption.

As my pictures show, it started my "Night" when I took an 1 hour siesta in the late afternoon. The watch must have observed data that matched sleeping behaviour (which was true) and figured that I went to bed very early. :) (Wake time is correct though.)

I'm with you now that there is something strange here. I don't think this is the intended behaviour.

This morning i had 8 hours of sleep (green line), was thinking all was ok....BUT now (13:30) i synced and voila, i have 12 hours (orange line), so the new synced added +5 hours to the graph, while i was into the desk: it is recording sleep hours when i am awake!! I am emailing Garmin folks (with altitude, GPS and sleep issues) but dont get answers, incredible the poor attention to the client.
