Fenix 5 plus / VO2Max is different from Fenix 3 HR

Hi,

I recently switched from my Fenix 3 HR to the new Fenix 5 plus. Due to this the VO2max dropped down from 55-56 to 51-52. On both watches I mostly use the Garmin heartrate belt because the optical sensor doesn't work very well for me. The settings on both watches in terms of max heart-rate and weight are the same. At the beginning I thought, that the drop down is related to missing training data. However, some weeks later, the value didn't increase. The point is, that I trained well and the relation between pace/heart-rate correspond to a 56 on the fenix 3 HR. Does anyone know, why the VO2Max is different between the two watches? Any ideas how to solve? Are there any other settings to concern?

Kind regards

Can you enable TrueUp on both watches and let them synchronise the data?
  • My fenix 3, not the hr version, has exact same vo2max as my fenix 5 plus.. .true up enabled.
  • Sounds like maybe your heart rate zones are set different. What are you using to determine your zones? You should be setting Max HR, Resting HR, and if you know it Lactate Threshold HR. Lactate Threshold is going to be your most accurate baseline for HR zone training and VO2Max determination. Just setting your Max HR to the same won't necessarily tell the watch to set the zones the same.
  • Thx. Yep, zones are the same. True-Up isn‘t activated. Tru-Up wouldn‘t answer the question if the VO2max calculation of 3HR and 5Plus are different?!!
  • Had my first ride with fenix5 plus today , noticed the same , on my Edge 1000 the Vo2Max was steady on 44 , today the fenix gave me 46 . No big deal for me , all my Garmin devices give me slightly different values in calories and now the Vo2Max. Puls zones are the same for all the devices .
