Upload Open Trail Maps on Fenix 5x Plus ?

Does anyone know if and how i can upload open (Trail) Maps to my Fenix 5x Plus?

I bought some official Garmin Maps for my Fenix 5x and was quite Happy with them, but since i switched now to Fenix 5x Plus would i have to pay all Maps (Each 150.- or more) again for the Fenix 5x Plus.
Garmin does not support transfer the Maps from one device to an other, even if you switch to an newer one and don't need the map anymore on the old one.
This is old fashion thinking and not with today thinking and frequently upgrading to new Devices, however, Gamin let not talk about this and i would really have to but them again what sucks...

So my Question now:
Are there any Maps (with Trail and Altitude) around which are free and can be loaded to the Fenix Watches.
If so, how would i have to do this?

Just copy the GPX to my Fenix?
On which Folder?
Or how does it work?

Me to....I use Frikart more than any other....my favorite map is....OSM TOPO SUMMER.....
OP.....
Try Talkietoaster maps to.....
loads of other OSM based maps out there....some people on the forums even make their own....

Just drop the file in the Garmin folder on the watch.....remember to rename the map....so you know which file to look for on the watch....if you need to delete it in the future.....

I use talkytoaster maps and not had an issue yet. Installation is easy as pointed out about

The standard way to load maps into Garmin devices is their "Basecamp." I use it to install Open Street maps.
