Weight difference between DLC and orig 5x

Some quick shots of this beast on my tiny wrists.... I don't have time to edit these or anything so here they are raw: https://photos.app.goo.gl/DXe5ZzVeRUuVxXM68ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1388992.jpg
  • As this one is the premium of the premium please (in the price range...), please do soon a report about the titanium band and how the DLC is scratch resistant !
I have never been disappointed by the materials used by Garmin so far (but the HR sensor's resin), my 5X was scratch resistant, my new 5XPlus seems to be impervious to bangs and scratches and deskdiving (as is my cheap Chinese Titanium band "Notocity")...
My watch is always banged against tripod and heavy metal camera equipments... My Titanium Tissot was a mess, my Garmin (steel PVD bezel) are endurant.
Now how is this full titanium 5XPlus ?

Great video, did you have to adjust the band to fit your wrist? is it an easy process?
  • I’ve just received mine too. Great watch and surprisingly, I have noticed the lighter weight more than I thought I would.

Initial tests shows that GPS+Galileo works much better than the 5X in the same mode. My Bluetooth connection often requires a reconnection to stop the stuttering however; hopefully they improve this via subsequent firmware updates.

I love the new design. Somehow the bezel looks less chunky with the new design line, However I’m not sure about the orange accent on the dial!

Love your video's sir, watch them all the time, thank you!!

I have the tool to remove the pins and have done it in the past it is pretty easy. That said given the cost of the DLC, I did not want to risk putting the pins back in wrong and the watch coming off during an activity so I had a watch/jewelry shop do it. Cost $5 for a little piece of mind, even though I intend on using the rubber strap most of the time, I may have the sudden urge to run when the Ti band is on it :)

As promised I would provide an update after having the DLC for a little while. The watch and the band itself are still perfect, however as others have noted the clasp is probably not Ti, the clasp has already got a small scratch on it :( Maybe the DLC coating is also different or just the ability to resist scratching being on a slightly softer metal? Not sure, but I am bummed that it scratched

  • It seems like I'm very lucky with my 50 euros Notocity Chinese Titanium quickfit band. The butterfly clasp (cleverly not exposed to any scratches hazard) is stainless steel but all the rest is Titanium and their "DLC" used is pristine (zero marks whatsoever) after two months of 24/7...
  • I am a little confused on which model you have. Is the Sapphire and Titanium with orange band the same as DLC? [h=2]Sapphire, Titanium[/h]
  • The silver Titanium (not DLC) and Orange band is a Fenix 5 Plus
There is also a Fenix 5 plus with DLC Titanium and DLC Titanium band.

But this is the 5X Plus forum so this Titanium with DLC and Titanium band is a Fenix 5X Plus

All 5X (plus or not) are sapphire by default.

  • thanks for the clarification NemoSandman...I now see the different DLC models in the 5X Plus and 5 Plus. Other then weight what are the benefits to the DLC?
