Indoor Swimming Lap count bug

I had a Fenix 5S up to 1 month ago, and it would count the laps without any issues. I switched to a Fenix 5S Plus, one month ago. For the first 3 weeks the swimming lap accuracy was spot one. Since Satursday it adds 10 laps after the first dozen,
It counts perfectly from 1 to 12
At 12 t shows 22
At 22 it shows 42
etc etc and 72 it shows 142.
That is on the watch. Also on the watch the distance is shown as a multiple of the laps shown and the pool distance.

However, when I sync the data back to Garmin Connect I see the correct distance.

I believe the issue for me started happenning with the latest firmware update (4.0.0.0) !!!

I hope Garmin fix this soon because this bug spoils all the fund in swimming....
  • Interesting. The 4.00 firmware update is not available for me, but I will stay away based on your comments as I swim a fair bit in the pool. I have the F5+ and counting is accurate under 3.10. I swim about 3 times a week (2 time so far this week) and roughly between 3000-4000m. I don't show lap count on my watch, rather I go by meters. But I think I'm reading in your post that distance is also increased. Weird...

Did you call into Garmin to report the bug?
  • I have reported a bug in 3.56b thread that I repprt also here with cut and paste : "I also noticed that there is a bug in navigation activity: if you try to navigate to somewhere and than stop and delete navigation, it seems that navigation activity keep run in background; today while I was trying to configure data pages in pool swim activity, I found "navigation settings" menu just near to pool swim configuration menu and while I was swimming in the pool and I was changing data pages, it appeared also navigation pages like map ETA, ete ecc... The only way to stop this crazy thing is to keep pressed up button went to navigation, set a fake destination, went back to swimming pool data pages, keep pressed up button and that selected stop navigation!
After this trick navigation menu is no more present in swimming pool settings and in other activity setting (like run, walk, bike ecc...). "
  • Folks how do I report something as a bug to Garmin?
  • Write to beta team... Look at the beta thread
  • I am a very regular swimmer (7 days a week) and do >25kms per week. I know my stroke and, since the v4.00 update, my stroke count for a 4km swim in a 50m pool has increased by 100. And this has happened for the first 2 swims with the update. Don't really care but there has been a change since v4.00. Don't get me started on open water swimming accuracy with the GPS and the Fenix 5X Plus. It is non-existent and has ben so for the past 2 months now. Have reported it to Garmin on many occasions and get a negligible response from them. This issue is all over the various forum and they don't seem to do ANYTHING to fix it. Now this GPS is a massive issue and makes the Fenix 5Plus worthless for any swimmer
