Tracking during commute

Hi, i'm new to the Garmin devices and also this forum!

I was wondering what's the best way to use my F5+ while cycling to work. Do i need to start a new cycling activity each time and and use hr from wrist or belt, or do the 27/7 activity recording register my burnt calories during (only 5 km's) the trip?

Another question is how to track exercise while aqua running?

My goal is for weight loss and want to track the progress. Thank you for any tips!
  • Hi and welcome to the forums!

It depends what kind of statistics you want really.
If you don't start a cycling activity you will still get calorie estimates, active minutes etc. as part of the daily activity tracking. If you have MoveIQ enabled you will most likely get your ride logged as a MoveIQ event as well, however this will not include any detailed cycling statistics, at least that's the way it works for walks. (not sure whether it will add mileage etc. to your total cycling statistics, but I guess it won't.)

If you do start a cycling activity you will get more detailed statistics like heart rate, speed, distance, GPS tracks + loads of other statistics depending on which external sensors you may plan to use. This will also add to you total cycling statistics which can be fun to review after some months or years ;)

Regarding aqua running I don't think there is a specific activity type for that, but you could use i.e. trail running, or create a custom activity by copying one of the existing running activities and rename it to whatever you want.
