With great anticipation, I went for an OWS in the ocean today using the 5X Plus and v4.00 firmware update. For the past month, there has been appalling GPS tracking with this watch and V4.00 makes no difference. The GPS track was lost before I had swum 100m and I only picked up the feed when I stopped and held my wrist above water.
The problems all started around 6 weeks ago and it has ruined the GOS on both the 935 and Fenix 5X Plus. Today's swim was eventually clocked at 3.7km but I did much the same course 6 weeks ago and it went to 4.4km. I am using both GPS + Glonass and have data recording at 1 second. I ensure that I have a solid GPS feed before I enter the water. I only swim freestyle and the only thing that has changed since my swim in early July to now has been the updates to Garmin.
I am talking to product support but they are very slow to respond and haven't added any value yet. Garmin, this needs to be sorted out.
By the way, pool swimming is fine with the 5X Plus.
