Firmware 4.00 Release

My Fenix 5 plus updated to firmware 4.00 in the morning. I can't find the changelog yet.
(GPS, WIFI, Sensor Hub have same ver. as 3.56 Beta) ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1387081.jpg
  • so now I am stuck with some not synchronizing index scale and a "trailers but not runners" watch. Great. At least I do not have to be excited about waiting for the rollout of this 4.00 release

    +1

Index scale still not fixed in over a year and no mention of #PABD, Grrr!!
  • It is definitely disappointing to spend $800 on a watch where the number on the battery gauge seems to be more of a suggestion than anything else and the OHR severely drains the battery after a GPS activity. I've been an early adopter of Garmin watches for many years now, and am used to these issues at this point. So, I am hopeful that they will be able to fix these things down the line (they usually have in the past), but it is frustrating when they don't at least acknowledge the problems that so many people seem to be posting about on the forum. I know there are Garmin folks looking at these posts.

FYI, this website does a good job of tracking Garmin updates and what is covered in each version.

I agree, as you can see from my profile I have been a long time customer of Garmin but it does seem that with each iteration their products are becoming less and less polished at launch. I understand there is pressure to release the next big thing but it damages consumer confidence when things like this happen.

I have an index scale that still does not reliably synchronise, I had a Fenix 5 that had the ongoing ANT+ issue, I am unwilling to upgrade from my Edge 810 which although it has a few remaining issues is still a better prospect than the newer models and their issues. Unfortunately in some cases they just give up trying to fix the existing produce and launch a replacement.

When you look at the prices they are currently charging they make the offerings by the overpriced fruity manufacturer look incredibly cheap and really need to be offering a top notch near perfect product.

I am aware they are trying to find the issue and have contacted many people including myself but these kind of issues shouldn't really have made it through testing.

Agreed, these seem like basic functions that should work right out of the box. But, sometimes things happen, so I can understand that. From my perspective, it's the lack of transparency that causes the most frustration. The battery thread has over 200 posts.....easily the biggest thread for this watch. Clearly this is an issue that is impacting more than just one person. And yet, not one word from Garmin. Even something as simple as an acknowledgment of the issue and letting us know they are working on it would be fine by me.

  • No update here before I left for open water swim, so with with 3.10 fw. And unfortunately yet another lack of accuracy + activity freeze + no Distance update after restart.
hopefully I will get the update to test the watch before my Hollidays are over !

Went for my OWS today using v4.00 and there was no change. Still does not pick up the GPS track. What a mess these updates have been
  • As frustrating as it is for some of us to be early adopters of new Garmin models, I think we’re the small 3% who make 90% of the noise (and should be hired as beta testers or offered early production at a discount - with a requirement to provide ongoing feedback for a set period).

I think the majority of users are like my wife; I bought her a Vivoactive 3, she’s thrilled with all the features, uses it as she bikes to work or around town, and thinks seeing a satellite track on her phone is neat. Even most marathoners aren’t performance driven and care about the fine details - many just want to reach the finish and a good fitness watch is a tool that helps them.

Me, I’m thrilled if I shave a minute off my marathon PR and like most of us I sweat the details, but I also understand through experience that a new Garmin release will be a work in progress.

I wasn’t going to buy this early, but through a little bit of luck I had a substantial one time expitring credit with Garmin so I jumped into this model earlier than I might have otherwise, and just kind of shrug with the under spec battery life and satellite tracking that seems worse then my last forerunner. I’m pretty sure they’ll get it up to spec soon ... but the tracking accuracy might have plateaued with current hardware.
  • I understand the point you're making, but have you seen the open water swim GPS tracks that this thing produces (for all users, as far as I'm aware, not just a vocal minority)? That's not just a matter of fine detail, it's so poor it's of no practical use whatsoever. Normally when people make comments like "didn't Company X even test this before releasing it" I tend to roll my eyes at the hyperbole, but on this occasion I do find myself asking how such poor performance in one of a device's core functions failed to get picked up - or did a release date have to be met?
  • The problem with the gps in open water remain in the version 4.0..right?
  • Has the roll-out been stopped? It's sitting at 20% since Friday.
(Still waiting for my update. I am in the US - Midwest)
