Unable to Sync - Couldn't sync the daily activity data

This week, I'm experiencing a new error out of the blue.

Setup:
Garmin Fenix 5 Plus 3.10, Garmin Express 6.7.0.0, Mac OS 10.13.6

My F5+ keeps error'ing at the end of a sync with the dialogue box appearing saying "We couldn't sync the daily activity data (i.e., steps taken) from this device because it's not set as your activity tracker."

It then has a link saying "Change Activity Tracker." This leads to a Page Not Found in Garmin Connect.

Help!!!

Thanks in advance

    Hi,

I have experienced this issue with the Fenix 5, and was able to resolve it today.
The reason for the issue seemed to be that an old watch was still set as active in Connect. Although it was NOT set as the primary device, I retired the device, so that the Fenix was the only one remaining.
And all of a sudden, syncing works...
    Yay!
  • I have a Fenix 5S Plus and the screen died. I sent the device in and never deleted my device from Garmin Connect.

A completely new device was sent to me and I connected it with my phone and synced. No problems.

Later, I launched Garmin Express and removed the old device. I connected and set up the new device and synced. This is when I got the "Unable to sync" error about this new device not being set as my active tracker.

I checked on my Android phone, and this device indeed is set as the default activity tracker. I also tried the above mentioned fixes, which did not work.

I do not see the previous device in my Garmin Connect account so I cannot delete it or retire it.

Since everything works if I just ignore Garmin Express, I guess I will be fine. I will just use Garmin Express for... updates, I guess.
  • I've managed to be able to sync where the first sync hits the error but a second sync does not hit the error. This is what I did:

    1. Delete the device in Garmin Connect (website)
    2. Reset the device to factory settings and delete all data
    3. Make sure my phone app has the device removed, remove the device from Bluetooth settings (forget device)
    4. Connect device with macOS and register it with Garmin Express BEFORE pairing it with phone
    5. Here is a successful sync, no errors
    6. Pair with phone app (and after this initial sync, the Garmin Express will start hitting the sync error)

Now, each time I sync with Garmin Express I will get the sync error. But if I immediately sync once more with Garmin Express, it seems there is no longer the sync error.

I believe that my phone app contains illegal/invalid/outdated data which it keeps syncing up to Garmin Connect (even with a fresh device which has been factory-reset), so one possibility would be to actually delete the app completely from my phone before attempting to setting up a fresh device which has been reset back to factory defaults.... but I don't have the time to go through this and re-setup everything again now.
