When I navigate a course for bike riding or hiking, the display defaults to a three field text view. When I scroll to the map, the screen quickly auto-returns to the text. What I want to see is the map on the watch face all of the time. Any suggestions on how to change the settings to accomplish this?
Maybe some simple steps will get this working as it should; after you’ve reported the bug if you wish (noting you’ve come on to the forums to get help with fixing an issue - so bug hunting is maybe not your thing). First thing to try is to hit the “Restore Defaults” in both the Hike and Navigation app Settings. You will need to configure the settings again, but perhaps try first with everything default to see if that works (you could then even zero in on a bug if it’s one of your app settings causing this). If that doesn’t work, try removing both the Hike and Navigation apps from the watch and then restore them; I suggest doing this with Garmin Connect Mobile or Garmin Express though, as I have seen the odd report of people loosing apps altogether if they delete them on the watch (admittedly that was on the Fenix 3 and 5 - I’ve never seen anyone hit that problem on the 5+ series). The final thing to try, because Garmin Customer Support will always direct you to do this before any in depth problem solving, is to master reset the watch Settings>System>Reset>Reset Default Settings (if that doesn’t work then try Delete Data and Reset Settings). I recognise the master reset is a PITA, but it’s sometimes the only way to clear an issue like this. Beyond all of that you’ll need to contact Garmin Customer Support.
nmyeti, I find that it occasionally works as I'd expect it to by leaving the map up, That is one reason it is so frustrating.
Thanks for the suggestions. Crispin. I'll start there to work through the suggestions as I get time. At least it is not all that customised yet.
I'm a long term Garmin handheld user and am accustomed to some pain to get the gain. This is a new product line to me so at least the problem is forcing me to learn the functions and menu structure.
I dug into the menus today while out walking and it seems my problem was solved by rearranging the screen order. The top screen is the one the watch defaults to but figuring out how to move the map was dificult for me. So thanks for the suggestions again. Asking questions and thinking about response is often a great way to solve a problem.
