I did a couple of open water sessions the last week with my Fenix 5 plus Titanium (the silver with orange strap) fw was 3.10 (I am in Holliday without a computer to test a beta with open water improvement)
All of these activities resulted in a very bad tracking, a very bad total distance computation.
Also, one of those resulted in a watch freeze during a session: no button were working and I had to restart the watch holding the light button for 10 seconds.
I started the watch that proposed me to restart the activity. After this, only the timer worked: not a single meter was added to the activity. I was capable of saving it, and transmit it to Garmin connect.
It would be nice to release a final fw version with open water improvements, or to make possible to install betas from Garmin connect mobile
I had the same freezes issue during a couple of sessions. I solved uninstalling one by one all the third party extensions, widgets etc. Hope it could help
