I have been using a Fenix 5X for some time without any of the following issues, but after upgrading to the Fenix 5 Plus, I am having an issue with my data screens during activity and am hoping somebody here might have a suggestion. I configured my data screens/fields to mimic my 5X and set the background to white as I prefer. Everything looks normal, but once I begin an activity, the background color will intermittently change from white to black multiple times and without any provocation. Additionally (and perhaps even more frustrating), I'll be on one data screen, then without touching the watch, the data screen will change to another, seemingly randomly. This happens no matter if the screen is locked/unlocked and I have double checked several times to be sure that Auto Scroll is toggled to off. Any insight/solutions to this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I'm having a similar problem with the Auto Scrolling of the screen on my Fenix 5 even though Auto Scroll is turned off. Really frustrating when you glance at screen expecting to see a set of data and the screen shows something else. The screen turning black & white - have you checked to make sure Auto Climb is turned off?
Thanks! I dug into the Auto Climb settings and noticed an Invert Colors option that was toggled on, so turned that off and thus solving my alternating background issue. I then toggled Run Screen to Current Screen option and also did the same with Climb Screen, so that may have been what was bouncing my data screens around. After that, I just turned off Auto Climb (which probably over rode those aforementioned changes anyways). But either way, problem completely solved! Thanks again.
It is a bug actually. I have the same problem (running activity defined with both auto climb and it's color inverting on) and the display is changing to black randomly during activity when running on flat surface, no ascent, no descent whatsoever (and none recorded by Garmin either).

The post I was referring to implied that it was a user setting that resolved the OPs post. You've now provided more specific detail that might indeed be suggestive of a bug. Hence the suggestion that you discuss with Garmin.
I've noticed the same issue today on my 6X after I ran by a nearby Strava segment. The Strava segment notification came up several times (I didn't go that way), then I noticed that the data screen had changed. Also in the process the background color had changed to black and after some time back to white. It changed to black once again at the end of activity.
