Strava Live Segments

Hello everybody, can anyone help, I I've had my 5x plus for just over a week, and all is well, moving from a forerunner 935, and everything is just as accurate, but with a bit more durability, I signed up for a 2 month free trial with strava, and wanted to have a go at the live segments, only cycling, now at first could not get it sync, then for 2 rides last week it worked, and worked really well, but since then nothing, I am new to premium strava, and the 5x I have synced, linked, un synced, etc, but does not work anymore, any ideas..........
Cheers
  • Works fine for me, but the segments seem to only sync fully when using Garmin Express. They do eventually sync via GCM, but it takes a long time to sync over BLE and the sync probably gets interrupted before it finishes each time.
  • I don't want to pay Strava to see the segments on the watch. So I created the same segments on Garmin Connect. However, I can't send them to my Fenix 5X (non plus) due to a long list of errors. Maybe your issue is related to a such thing too. I see a long list in Settings > Device Sync Audit in GCM Android.
  • Thanks for the replies, It did work, then stopped, how do I save strava segments to the watch, I can see how to link garmin segments, but not strava other than linking accounts, starring segments in strava and blue tooth on my Galaxy s7 ? am I missing something ?
  • You need to make sure the Segments section on the Garmin Connect website is set up for Strava and not Garmin Segments (see attached pic).ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1381070.jpg
  • Thank you, yes done that, now should these segments show up on the watch, if I go into watch settings, Strava segments, says no segments saved, how can I save my strva segments to the watch, as I have none, tried with Garmin Express, it wanted to install segments which I have no idea what they are, maybe popular segments in my area, not sure, but I don't need those...

    Cheers.
  • As far as I know, it’s only the segments you have tagged as Favourites that get synced accross to Garmin Connect and then eventually to your Fenix 5+. To find them on the watch, Press the top right Start button, select the “Run” or “Bike” app as appropriate, press “Up” to get the “Options”, then “Training”, then “Strava Live Segments”. There’s an option for “Auto Effort” that I think is supposed to automatically select your PR or the CR depending whether the watch thinks you are closer to one or the other when you start the segment.

Also, just check in your Run or Bike app settings that the option for “Segment Alerts” is toggled to On.
  • Thank you again, ok so I had a play around with watch connected to garmin express, I added another segment in strava, and saw in express I had an update for my 5xp, it was the newly starred segment, so I unstarred all my segments in strava and re-starred them and in express I had another update waiting, so I installed all the re-starred segments on the 5xp, not had a chance to see if it works but they are on the watch, which they weren't before, now do I need my phone to get these to work ? if they are on the watch, do I need bluetooth on, strava open ?, location on, as I said before it just worked. But i'm getting closer I hope.
  • If the segments are on the watch, there’s no need for the phone. As long as Segment Alerts are on they’ll automatically trigger (you get a count down as you approach the start of a segment).
  • Well thank you Crispin, I can report back that it all works, great fun, Many thanks again, really appreciated
