I know that Strava does it’s own calculations (blah, blah, blah), when importing a gps file, but I’m wondering if anyone else is noticing that strava is consistently giving different results than the F5 plus and Garmin Connect are. I’m coming over from a Suunto. Strava always had the exact same results as my Suunto did, but not so with my F5 plus. I always end up with more distance once it’s imported into strava. It’s a little annoying. Yesterday my buddy and I did the same exact 6.2 mile run, (he’s on Suunto). Once up on strava, he had 6.2 and I had 7.0.
anthonytieuli are you referring to a manual upload of an activity to Strava or an auto-synced activity Garmin >> Strava? I use auto-sync and rarely, if ever, see anything off by more than 1/100 mile. So virtually spot on.
AFAIK they have a threshold within they take the distance from watxh. If its too far off, they cakculate it from track. That happened very often for me with my Fenix 5 (not plus) and only once with my 935. Problem was the wobbling Fenix 5 tracks adding distance. Never seen it with my 5plus until now.
It shouldn't make a significant difference, but have you got 3D distance enabled on your Garmin?
Like others, I rarely see any real difference - if I look at my 2018 distance totals between Strava and Garmin Connect there's less than 0.01% difference.
