maps + basecamp issues

I just noticed something weird ..when connecting to Basecamp i only can see the Topo Europe East map, but not the West map, although both are installed.. strange. I did notice some other maps but as loading was realy really slow i didn't dive deeper into it (was something like gmapsup1, gmapsup2, gmapsup3 ) What are these maps used for? The other thing is that i loaded another map to the Fenix ( US_Mountain_OSM_Topo ) for my next trip. I was able to select this in Bsasecamp though it didn't show up in the Fenix map menu (the list on the leftside of Basecamp), though on the watch itself i can select this... Are the better ways to manage maps on my Fenix? Also, when creating a backup, which files do i need to backup?
  • Until you allow BaseCamp to fully index the maps on your fenix they won't show in BaseCamp. I suggest you allow that to happen, even though it may take a while. After that if you have any issues with maps not showing then come back and ask again.

gmapsup etc will be maps but until they are indexed you won't know what they are. Note after all the maps are indexed future connections with BaseCamp will be very quick.
  • Right, i will hook up the Fenix again then. Just wondering, why takes the indexing so much time? Is it perhaps downloading the installed maps to the pc?
  • No its not downloading the maps. It takes a while because while they may appear as just maps the files contain a lot of data.
  • Had a similar problem. Everything was working fine until - what ? Don't know. Erased a map from watch, installed an OSM map, cleared tracks, ...
Googled "garmin basecamp force reindex maps"
    Found https://forums.garmin.com/forum/mac-...camp-aa/29648-
Contained a hint on deleting files in C:\Users\{ME}\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp\CardProductCache
So: End Basecamp, unplug F5X+. Delete files (on your own risk). Restart Basecamp, connect watch.
Bascamp starts indexing (green progress indicator per map), took a while (in the order of hours).
The "Maps" menu started filling incrementally with each map (img) file that's being indexed.
For some reason, the last map being indexed was an OSM Greece img - and the Map menu went back to its previous next-to-empty state.
Pragmatically erasing the OSM Greece map from the watch brought the full menu back.
I did no further analysis (as it would be indicated), for me the problem is solved.
It well might be that none of the above steps would have been necessary and just erasing the OSM Greece map.
If you have installed non-Garmin Maps on your device, you might give it a try.erasing those.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1376097.png
  • Your problem is almost certainly something different, some maps won't automatically display in BaseCamp. JaVaWa's device manager enables you to set those maps so they do then display in BaseCamp. Also note some maps are made up of a number of separate files. Once they've all been indexed only the top level map will show, not the individual files.
