WIFI with hidden SSID not found

It looks like Fenix 5 plus does not work with WIFIs that do not broadcast SSID (ie name). Did anybody get this working?

It worked fine on my Fenix 3 :-(. All that was needed was to let it connect for the first with SSID being broadcast, the stop broadcasting and WIFI sync continued to work. The same on Fenix 5 Plus does not work.

Thanks, Mirek
  • I used to hide my SSID for well over a decade but modern advice seems to be that it doesn't offer any security benefits

I know but that is something that one cannot always affect. Plus I see no reason for this feature to disappear between Fenix 3 and 5 plus.
  • I too have this problem. I cannot control the fact that my work place chose to hide the SSID. Garmin the feature of null service sets in 802.11 has been around for years so it would be nice it was supported regardless of how useless it is as a feature for security.

The worst thing is the garmin connect mobile app is actually able to test the network as successful! It's just when it comes to syncing activities or music it doesn't work and asks you to add a new network.
  • Same comment as Darren here.  Hidden SSID are part of the standard, and shouldn't be a problem to implement, AT ALL.   Not everyrone can control whether the SSID is hidden or not (as per Darren's example).  This is really really disappointing from a large established cimpany as Garmin.

Besides my watch, the only other devices on my network having that hidden SSID problem are cheap 9$ smart plugs from China.
