Drop outs in the heart rate

Hello together,

I just got my Fenix 5 Plus about a week ago. Since the first day I noticed that the OHRM had once or twice a day drop outs in the heart rate for about 5 to 15 minutes.

The odd thing is that the OHRM is working, when I go to the widget it gives me a reasonable heart rate, it just don't log it. I tried to figure out what triggers this bug but I couldn't find clear relations. Some drop outs seem to appear just random, others seem to be triggered by water (when I sweat a lot or wash my hands). What makes it even harder to tell what causes this is that even when the graph on the watch shows a drop out the heart rate might show up in Garmin connect anyhow.

The only clear relation I could find was my HRM-Run. Once I put this on, the OHRM stops logging. Yesterday, while watching the livestream of the Ironman in Frankfurt I was getting ready for my run and put everything on including my HRM-Run. Since I wanted to know who get first I stayed at home watching for about an hour and than went for my run. this was the result. It did not log any heart rate data though I had the watch and HRM-Run on. Once I started the activity everything was perfect again. I just saw that I got another random drop out yesterday evening, at this point in time I was sitting on the couch watching TV.

Does anyone have similar problems?

Best regards

  • Hi,
I have the same problem with my ~ 3 week old 5+, but mine happens exclusively in the middle of the night. I'm sure the watch is on fine and tight and doesn't move. Just get random dropouts...

It's not yet something I'm too worried about, as long as it doesn't happen during my workouts but wondering if I should exchange thr watch anyways to be on the safe side?

I updated to 6.0 the day I got it so can't say whether this is firmware related..
