I have had 2 Fenix 5 plus units and one Fenix 5x plus. None of them have detected my heart rate. I am a Black American. I have a WHOOP strap and it works perfectly. When I put the Fenix on the palm of my hand or on the bottom of my feet, it detects my hear rate. When I put it on my wife, who is white, the Fenix works like a charm. At this point, I am livid. Anyone willing to join me in lobbying Garmin to get their engineering chops in gear? This is ridiculous. Sure, I can return it, but really? Any suggestions?
Dude, Its not a popular issue cause you know. People are color discussion Phobic. But, there are a number of articles online that state that OHR's can have issue with darker skin. However, there is a fix by making some adjustments to the software that has to be done by Garmin. (Apple also had a quite kept issue with population testing on dark skin) I've gone through 3 or 4 of them too. Whats odd is my 5X worked great but the plus is where I had issue. Again, Garmin will have to address the issue and as a dark skinned man I also have put in tickets on the issue. Hopefully, Garmin will get things in order soon. But, I have made similar complaints directly to Garmin and raised concerns.
Thank you for your feedback. Garmin has not really been openly sensitive to the concerns raised so we are not too sure if anything is being done. We just have to make a decision if we will stay with the product or migrate!
