Transferring purchased Garmin maps to 5XPlus?
Former Member
I just upgraded from a 5X to a 5X Plus but can’t figure out how to transfer/install the $200 worth of Garmin topo maps to the 5XPlus...anyone know how?
Well, I did not realize that. So I basically I wasted $200. What an awful idea and will no longer be buying maps from Garmin...plus I’m returning the 5X Plus and maybe look into the new Suunto. My view of Garmin just took a nose dive.
Is it really true when I've (too) purchased ~200€ map for Fenix 5x, I'm forced to buy the same map again if wanting to upgrade to newer device? If so, Garmin is basically forcing me to stay with older watch and not to buy newer device from them. I would say that it's stupid, VERY stupid from Garmin and I'm too pretty sure this will be my last Garmin device.
I received a reply from support saying that the maps were not transferable. I'm disappointed in the answer and will probably not buy any more maps from Garmin. This also makes the purchase of a 5x+ extremely unlikely for me. Potentially the 6x or whatever it is is called will be more compelling.
A non-transferrable $100 map = Good bye Garmin. I returned my Fenix 5X Plus yesterday and I'm now looking at the latest Suunto models. Extremely disappointed with Garmin, and what an awful business decision.
