Maps not working

I love my new 5s Plus but the maps are not working properly. There is no detail at all showing . No roads nothing. under configure it is showing two mps available: Worldwide DEM Basemap, NR and TOPO US 2017.40. I am in the Cayman Islands and I thought they were included in the US maping .
  • Maybe try TalkyToaster maps based on OSM. Garmin maps are pretty ordinary. I’ve switched to Talky’s maps for Australia. Much better
  • Get very good detailed maps at http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ - download the type routable bicycle map for the country/reqion you need.
  • I did that. There were four different file options I downloaded all four.

    * _windows.exe = Installer for Garmin BaseCamp/MapSource (Windows)
    . * _macosx.zip = Installer for Garmin BaseCamp/RoadTrip (Mac OSX)
    * _gmapsupp.zip = Combined image for direct manual placement on the GPS device (gmapsupp.img)
    * _tiles.zip = A zip file containing the tiles in the request, especially useful for Linux users (e.g. QLandkarte)

    But I can not figure out which to load or how. Any help would be appreciated.
  • Well the first two as it says are for installing on your computer for BaseCamp to use. From there you can install to your device.

    The third contains a .img file that you install directly to your device having unzipped it. The fourth doesn't apply to you unless you're using Linux?

  • That is correct. You have to put the unzpipped *.img file to the /GARMIN directory on your watch (you can rename the file if it collides with other files on the watch)

    Also remember that the map choice is activity based, so you have to go to Activity settings -> Map -> Configure Maps.. and choose the maps you want to use.
