i've upgraded from 5x to 5x+, and the new device seems to have no cycle maps installed? am i missing something, or is the 5x+ less generous with pre-installed maps than the 5x?
The fenix 5 Plus series have regional devices with maps and even languages designed for those areas.
Plus, each Activity type can have different maps turns on or off.
Make sure you have your local map turned on by Settings -> Activities & Apps -> Choose the desired Activity -> Activity Settings -> Map -> Configure Maps.
Yes this is definitely a sneaky downgrade from Garmin. The 5X had more included maps - the 5X Plus doesnt include the cycling maps, which cost an extra £50 if you want them. Feels a bit tight on a device that already costs a lot more than its predecessor
Garmin-Heath, this is not a settings issue. The European device just doesn't have as many included maps as its predecessor alas (i cant speak for any other regions)
My guess... to make room for music... After the last cycle map update, the 5x had only 1 gb storage left... not much room for music if this would be the case for the plus watches as well... But in what way are the cycle maps superior over the topo active maps?
Maybe the didn´t put the cycle map on the 5plus series, because of size? The 2017.10 cycle map is 3.2GB, the new 2018.10 cycle map is 8.3GB (for European cylce map)...
That is true bu you only need either Europe South-West or North-East map files depending where you live. Anyway both are installed originally leaving ~1GB free and you need to manually remove unnecessary map. Maybe they are figuring out what to do with those.
