Very high price for garmin fenix 5x plus

Could you tell me why price is very high ?
What is the reason? what generate very high price?
Any special component ?

Do you have any shop which have good discount ?

I don't know how it is looks in other country but in Poland if I compare with minimum salary in Poland to buy the cheapest garmin fenix 5 plus it is start with 2 minimum salary and the most expensive version shapphire you need to work 3 months and don't spend money for food etc.
Cheaper is mobile phone or laptop.
Do you believe price is ok?

  • Not to be sarcastic, but the price is going to be based on what the Garmin thinks they can get for it. If they are wrong and they can't sell enough of them to make a profit for their shareholders, then at that time they will probably make an adjustment. I agree, it is very expensive for the average consumer, myself included. Typically, if you want to be on the cutting edge and own the latest, greatest, best the company has to offer, that is going to come at a high cost and with no discounts based on the agreements Garmin may have with their retailers.

Seilogramp I understand your point. Always company would like to take maximum profit.
How many months do you need to work for f5+? if we can compare with Poland salary I believe shorter in your Country than Poland
  • Depends on where in USA you live. Cost of living can vary quite a bit, even among the larger cities. For example San Francisco CA vs. Atlanta GA. Like a BMW, the Fenix 5X plus is a niche product for an "elite" few that either have disposable income or their desire to own it surpasses their affordability. This is why they have a full range of products so that more consumers can realistically buy from them. In the end you're free to buy what you think you can afford and Garmin will either win or lose as a result of the consumer's buying decisions.

In a free market economy the price is usually the highest that an acceptable number of consumers is ready to pay.

Unit production cost has usually very little impact on final retail price, especially with premium products.

The plus series is quite new, so it's nigh impossible to find discounts.

You don't understand how the big world works. Low salaries in some countries are not Garmin's fault nor concern. Garmin can't make the F5X plus two or three times cheaper in Poland than anywhere else, for numerous reasons.
  • Here in Turkiye, retail prices are almost four times of mininmum wage. :D

In the past, I had bought Fenix 3 with a price some more than half of my wage. But now it's almost two times of my wage... Bad economies...
  • You make to little money. I work in Sweden. Maybe half salary for 5x plus. If you are low payment .
  • I get the feeling that you want the price of the watch to be lower in low income countries. If that is the case, here is what would happen:

I live in Denmark. We have high salaries and only have to work a few days to buy the watch.

Both Denmark and Poland are members of the EU.

In the EU, nothing must stop goods from passing internal borders. No customs duties are allowed. No agreements between private companies about limiting the market are allowed.

So if Garmin lower the price of the watch in Poland, nothing will stop me from buying the watch from a Polish webshop and save a lot of money. And nothing will stop a Danish shop from buying a large stock of cheap watches in Poland and selling them to Danish customers in the Danish shop.

So the additional profit that Garmin might make in Poland by lowering the price there and thus selling more watches, would be negated by a much larger loss in Denmark because we would stop buying Garmin watches at full price and instead buy them in Poland at reduced price.
  • You are right if will be cheaper in Poland all people will by from other country.
    but
Do we know which component generate this price ?maybe new oxygen component ???????
  • Why do you assume that a certain component is generating the price?

Garmin have low end watches which are probably sold at only a little more than production cost. And then they have high end watches which are probably sold at many times the production cost. That is how you will normally make sure that you are getting maximum profit from all target groups in a market without cannibalizing your own sales.

Jan, Quit your whining. The price is the price, whether you like it or not.

I'd like a Ferrari, but I don't moan that it's too expensive, and ask on forums which component do I think has made the car excessively priced.

I do think the new (and older ones to be honest) are overpriced, and that's why I wouldn't buy one without finding a decent discount somewhere. As it happens, nowhere is discounting, so Garmin isn't getting a sale from me. Will they care? Almost definitely not!
