Disappointing battery life

I have just upgraded from a Fenix 5 to a Fenix 5 plus and so far I am finding the battery life to be a lot less than I would expect.

I used to get nearly 2 weeks battery life out of the Fenix 5 but so far the Fenix 5 plus has used 25% in 2 days, both watches are set up and used exactly the same.

I know the Fenix 5 plus is supposed to have slightly less battery life but at this rate it is not even going to last a week.

Does anyone know if this will improve if I cycle the battery a couple of times or if this is normal for this model
  • Exactly. I'm getting a great 0.3 - 0.35 % /h on my 5f+ until I used the GPS after which it sometimes starts draining. But I now restart the watch after every run and all is good. It's a software issue unless you have a hardware failure. LOL

Weird - I've never seen this drain. In fact, I have the opposite problem, where even after a short run it will still show 100% if I just charged it. Do you use Galileo? Wonder if there's a bug with that aspect of the software.

My fenix 5 plus is draining 9% per day and doing nothing, no GPS, no seconds showing on watch, only sync maybe twice a day. If I run I have the running pod and hr strap, in about 15 -20mins lost 2%, its 3% if I have music.

My fenix 5s accually has a better battery life, and even with 3-4 runs a week, with GPS does better in the battery department.

My wife had the 5 plus. Was running about 30min gps per day and was getting only about 48hrs out of the battery. We spoke to garmin, they asked us to try a few things ie full reset, charge only using computer usb etc and was still no good. Sent it back, they checked it out and then sent out a new watch. All seems better so far, atleast for standard smart watch use as my wife cant exercise at the moment.
  • Well I got my watch on Monday, and have had to charge it twice, and a third time just for a test. I run a lot, almost every day, and I know there will be a higher drain because of this, but when in smart watch mode, I am getting a drain of 0.67 to 0.82...I am guessing from reading this thread that is not great. I am in the process of returning it to Amazon for a replacement. That was after having spoken to Garmin and they had suggested I send it back to them. Can honestly say whilst I am loving this watch and what it can do, I am worrying I made a mistake, and am starting to believe the nay sayers...

Hi, do you have a Fenix 5 or a 5s?
Also which watch face are you using? They make a huge impact on battery life of my 5s plus...
  • I’m using the standard digital face. Nothing 3rd party or fancy. Yes I have the seconds ticking around the edge, but I need those on. Only widget I have installed that isn’t stock is the battery widget.
  • Seconds eat batteries for breakfast.
Do you have de 5+ of the 5+S?
  • I use the standard digital face with seconds ticking around the edge and use 0.33% (8% a day) with BT notifications, HR and activity tracking turned on so I don't think the seconds make much, if any difference on the built in faces. (Fenix 5 Plus)
  • I have a 5+ and I had seconds on on my 935 and the battery was fine. Oh and when people talk about rebooting after an activity, do you mean turn it off and on or hold the power button for 10 seconds?
