Disappointing battery life

I have just upgraded from a Fenix 5 to a Fenix 5 plus and so far I am finding the battery life to be a lot less than I would expect.

I used to get nearly 2 weeks battery life out of the Fenix 5 but so far the Fenix 5 plus has used 25% in 2 days, both watches are set up and used exactly the same.

I know the Fenix 5 plus is supposed to have slightly less battery life but at this rate it is not even going to last a week.

Does anyone know if this will improve if I cycle the battery a couple of times or if this is normal for this model
  • I hoped for an update for fenix 5 plus for better battery-performance. But after more than 6 months Garmin-Support still claims that he knows nothing about battery problems ...
    Top-Support!
  • I am guessing that’s a scripted response. If they admit they know doesn’t that say they admit there is a flaw with the watch? They wouldn’t want that.
  • gandrian For the Fenix 5 at least Garmin has issued a Beta-Update to 12.21, which you should check out. So far the first results seem promising, you can read more in this thread.

    ok jminar,
I read it, but I shouldn't install (at the moment) a BETA version. I prefer be prompt to update to the official version as usual.

    Thanks anyway.

Sending mine back for a refund today (Fenix 5s Plus Sapphire). I have had it since Jan 4th and the battery life is terrible. 2 - 30 minute runs and I am down to 44% from a full charge. I have owned a lot of Garmin devices in the past but they missed the boat on this one.

No music and GPS settings on minimal.
  • What you going to get to replace it?

    Going back to my 935
  • I`ll send it back tomorrow. Maybe I try it again with a new one.
My problem: I`ve not found another watch with the same functions.
So my last idea would be: waiting for fenix 6. Do you think it´s coming this year (I don´t have another smartwatch :( )?
  • A new watch may be introduced in May. The Fenix 6 probably will be introduced around CES next year.
  • My Fenix 5 Plus was replaced by Garmin eventually. I got a brand new device, the average battery drain is now about 0.25% per hour, which is pretty much what I was expecting.

Good decision to send it back.
But why do you think Fenix 6 will be any better?
It's from the same company (GARMIN) with the same horrible customer-ignoring support, missing but sold features and developed based on the existing software framework and "quality"... uaaahhhh
I'd definately go for another brand as soon as they offer a product that suits - can't get worse than GARMIN products... at least you know what you will ("not") get from Garmin products by now!
