Recommended Bluetooth Headphones for 5+

Hi,

Anyone have any BT headphone recommendations for the 5+? Looking for running and cycling. dcrainmaker uses the Skullcandy Method which look decent. I basically don’t want them falling out while I’m moving around and I also want to be able to hear traffic decently. Any other suggestions? Not looking to break the bank.

My previous setup was an iPod shuffle (clip version) with some in earbuds on a wire. But the wire would move around and eventually pull out the bud.

Thanks,
  • I have a set of the active 65t's on the way, but I just curious which arm you wear your watch. Seems a people have more issues with left wrist and headphones with a right ear receiver. I am hoping it won't be the case for me.

Curious to know how it goes for you. Was checking these out myself but am a bit hesitant to pull the trigger.

Every store has a return policy. I tested several earbuds that got returned because of signal loss, cut-outs, drops, left-right earbud disconnect, etc.

I'm returning my F5+ to see if it's the BT that's messed up. Several on this forum have reported good results with earbuds (65t as an example) that cut out as soon as I cross the street from my house.

I wear my watch on the left wrist. I tested it running/walking/hiking in urban areas and int the 'wild' and had no problems with the connection. I just have to note that the quality of the sound played from the watch is worse than, for example, from the phone. The sound is flat with little bass.

This weekend I went on a run with the F5+ (titanium) v3.2, hrm-run and jabra elite sport (v5.3) buds, no dropouts whatsoever while outdoor running. my guess is that the bt range is improved compared to the other music enabled devices
  • I have the Fenix 5 plus, and jabra elite 65T. Biking no dropouts on my left wrist (controller is on right earbud), running lots of dropouts on left, pretty good on my right (but I prefer the watch on my left).

I’ve only tried one run and it was a bit windy - and I found my phone when paired to the jaybird X3s had trouble in the wind - maybe that’s why my experience with them differed from Artivis? He also said he has the Active version but I believe the guts of the headphones are the same. I’ll try again another day in the coming week and see if it’s the same, I expect it will struggle on my left wrist but we’ll see. Surprising as they are very high end headphones. My Jaybird x3s dropped out all the time when connected to my phone as I ran, the 65Ts on the other hand are virtually perfect with my phone (and sound amazing for Bluetooth). I just wish they let a little more sound through (without the annoying pass through feature enabled) just for safety reasons. I don’t hear bikes or other runners approaching me any longer and it’s a touch isolating.

Well when it comes to in-ear pieces unfortunately how well they fit affects the sound quality (especially at low frequencies) ... so either a rich sound or we hear the environment ... functions like jabra's passthrough are an alternative to have the best of both worlds, but I have to agree it can be annoying (especially the hissing background). I use the 'double click' on right earpiece to turn the 'passthrough' feature off and on when needed.

I also agree that the sound is amazing for a BT in ear sport piece imho (when played from phone, from the watch it is rather flat)

I don't know if the Active version has any other hardware differences other then the IP (water/dust resistance) rating.

Received the headphones, but haven't had a chance to exercise with them yet, but used them at the airport and on the plane
One thing I found to help the flat sound is to connect your phone and set the EQ in the app, it'll carry over to the music from the watch. I connected my watch and phone at the same time, played music from the watch, while tweaking the EQ on my phone.

Same. I couldn't convince myself to buy $200 earbuds when they kept dropping out and I'm not going to change my watch just for some music.

Ha! Thanks for the tip, I wasn't aware I can connect two devices at the same time to those headphones :D Wow!
  • First run with the Beatsx and no issues, great connection.
