Recommended Bluetooth Headphones for 5+

Hi,

Anyone have any BT headphone recommendations for the 5+? Looking for running and cycling. dcrainmaker uses the Skullcandy Method which look decent. I basically don’t want them falling out while I’m moving around and I also want to be able to hear traffic decently. Any other suggestions? Not looking to break the bank.

My previous setup was an iPod shuffle (clip version) with some in earbuds on a wire. But the wire would move around and eventually pull out the bud.

Thanks,
  • I've used Avantree Sacool headphones for a great many years but always experienced the odd cut out whilst walking using on my phone and now my F5+.

However I recently got the new revised version Avantree Sacool Pro and they are excellent with no dropouts, 8 hours battery life and less than £20. The only thing I have found is that getting the right rubber end on them can drastically improve the bass and the ones shipped did not fit me as well as the ones from the older model, no problem for me as they fit both models but it is something to bear in mind when auditioning them.

I've run many times outdoors with Beats X and works perfect.. No dropouts with the Fenix 5 Plus on my left wrist!
  • I use the Jabra Elite Sport. Very comfortable.
Generally very good connection, however I can be running for 30 min with no BT stutter, but then for a minute or two it goes a bit crappy, before being fine again for a while.
Just the nature of the beast I guess.
My best connection comes from the old Sony SBH20. This is a clip-on receiver that you can plug any earbuds into. Sony do not make them anymore, but you can still pick them up in Amazon for about €25. Nice thing about this is that you can clip the reciever to your shorts on whatever side you wear the watch. Never more than 6 inches away, and rarely any stutter.
  • How is your connectivity between the 65t and watch outdoors? I had massive dropouts with these and had to return to them. They did feel comfortable "in ear" and worked flawlessly indoors. The connection just wasn't reliable enough for me outdoors (as with most right-side Bluetooth antenna headphones).

I don't have any problems with the 65t outdoors,.. ofc occasional short sound distortions happen (both indoors and outside) mostly when I use 'Hearthrough', but beside that nothing annoying. I don't know when you tested them, maybe the newer firmware on both watch and headphones helped.
  • I use a pair of Sony WS625 Sport headphones (https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/walkman/nw-ws620-series) with my Fenix 5 plus and I've had no issues with dropouts even though the antenna is on the right side and I wear my watch on the left side.

To be fair though, I probably won't use them in bluetooth mode with the watch all that often since they also have built in MP3 storage but I wanted to test it out.

I also tried out the Beats X and can confirm no dropouts with the Fenix 5 Plus (only tried for a couple of days tho). I didn't like how long the cables were, and sound quality wasn't amazing for something that was basically twice the cost of Skullcandy earbuds I had previously, so I returned the Beats X and went back to Skullcandy.
  • Tried my JLab Epic2 Bluetooth Wireless Earbuds headphones on two outdoor runs and they do not work with the 5S+. I tried the watch on the left wrist and the sound was not listenable at all. I tried a second run with the watch on the right wrist and the Bluetooth connection stayed pretty steady for about 2/3 of the run; after that the connection again made the sound quality totally unlistenable.

It really sucks that the Bluetooth connection for music is so poor in an $800+ watch that touts music as a primary feature. I'm not really sure what to buy. I'm thinking the BeatsX, but I'm just not sure how well those will work for heavy exercise.
  • I've been using the Trekz Air with a 645M (passed on to my wife) and the 5+, no issues, a little expensive, but great quality, battery life and I do like that they sit outside of the ears.

Given that others have confirmed that the 5+ plays just fine with a number of other earbuds, it's clearly not the watch that's the problem here.

I have a set of the active 65t's on the way, but I just curious which arm you wear your watch. Seems a people have more issues with left wrist and headphones with a right ear receiver. I am hoping it won't be the case for me.
