I s there any reason that I should (or should not) use Galileo for running, trailiing activities as default?

  • I think Galileo is only assisting GPS for a better performance under strong conditions (tall buildings, trees...) on the Garmin devices. This maybe the reason, why we are not seeing a stand alone Galileo use on our devices.Gps+Galileo need some more battery.

But give it a try and have a look, if you get a better performance on your normal ways...

  • If you find GPS accuracy sufficient, then you don't need Galileo. Enabling Galileo will cost more battery power.

One trick: enable Galileo while still indoors for faster connection, then change back to GPS for battery save: Run Settings -> GPS -> On.

    Does that work for you?

  • Enabling a secondary satellite constellation like Galileo allows for your fenix 5 Plus to acquire a satellite fix quicker and can help maintain satellite connection in degraded signal situations where the environment may be a factor. If you are experiencing issues with speed and distance due to degraded GPS signal, enabling a secondary satellite constellation may help.
