Road Navigation UK

I have tried most settings, but cannot get my Fenix 5 Plus to navigate using Automobile Routing.

All that ever happens is it plots a straight line to the destination.

I have Routing set to Automobile, calculation method either Minimize Time or Distance.

Comments about the Fenix 5X say that automobile routing worked, firmware is 3.10.

Road Cycling Routing works as expected, am I misunderstanding Automobile Routing?

  • Not sure what you are doing wrong, but I just tried this and it routed via roads for me when I set to automobile.
  • I am also seeing this on US maps, you are not alone. If I start navigating with anything above cycling I see that direct point to point routing.
  • Are you sure you have a routeable map selected?

Please clarify, what is "Automobile Routing" ?
  • Have you created an app with setting the routing to “automobile”? Works perfect on my 5x+, I have even installed a routable cn nt street map.
  • I basically copied the cycling profile, tested the Routing with the built-in Topo Active Europe (routable) and that worked.

Set Routing to Automobile and get point to point Routing.

What are you setting that is different?

By ‘Automobile Routing’ I mean setting the Routing Activity option to ‘Automobile’.
  • Same problem here in the US. Copied the Navigation activity. Set only map to the built-in Topo 100k w Use System Settings off. Activity Auotomobile. Calculation method Minimize Time. Tried it with and without Lock on Road. Tried it with and without adding in the cycling map. I always get straight line routing.

Edited to add: Earlier i was getting turn by turn for hiking/running activity. Just tried that again and got straight line...
  • The 100K map isn't routeable so that's why you get straight lines if you've selected that.

Why don't just use the built in Navigation app (have you congfigured it for something else)?

Not sure how that helps. If I use Navigation, and set the Navigation Routing to Automobile, I get direct point to point routing.

The same issue exists for Motorcycle. Road Cycling routes correctly, but is unusable in a car as it navigates via cycle paths etc. in my area.

Reported to Garmin, no response yet.
