Hi all, I’ve just changed my trusty 935 for a 5+. I’ve gone from a 3HR to a 5 sapphire to a 5 standard to a 935 and now to a 5+ sapphire. For me I had endless issues with sensor dropouts on both the Fenix 5’s. I did promise myself I wouldn’t buy another Garmin after the fiasco with the Fenix 5 but here I am again...

I’ve only done one run so far with the 5+ and I can confirm that my hrm-run and stryd appear to have had zero dropouts. Coming from a 935 the weight is taking some getting used to again but I’m sure I’ll get there soon. Build quality is great as you would expect and everything seems to work well on it so far. The version that I’ve got is the Sapphire with black band (the one with the red ring around the start button). I’m can’t quite place why but I don’t think it looks as good as the Fenix 5 I had.

Anyway once I’ve used it a bit more I’ll report back but so far sensor connectivity and gps tracks look good.

    Looking forward to hearing results

What do you think to the device speed?

Did you have the all black Sapphire version before? I’ve gone for the leather band version just to avoid the red :)

I know that at least one user reported that navigating menus seems faster than their 935 but they seem about the same to me.

I had the all black Fenix 5 followed by the silver bezel Fenix 5 with the blue strap. The black on that Fenix 5 was properly black though unlike the black on my 5+ which is more like slate grey imo.

I thought that I would like the red on my 5+ but it just seems to be a bit too bright a shade. In hindsight I perhaps should have gone for the all black version that comes with a leather strap but that was another £50 on top of an already very very expensive watch.

I figure if this is the only thing I can find “wrong” though then I’m doing pretty well! So far it’s been a good experience right from buying at Cotswold to unboxing to setting it up and then running with it yesterday. Also I’m looking forward to giving the maps a go on a walk at the weekend.

Has anyone tried the brown leather strap with either a slate grey or a black Fenix 5?

Hi all, given that there now seem to be a number of posts listing various issues ranging from connectivity to battery I thought I’d offer my experience. I’ve owned my f5+ for a week now and I’ve done some form of exercise with it everyday since owning it, even using the maps. I’ve tried my best to get sensors to dropout like they did on my f5 but so far the f5+ has been rock solid. The battery seemed to be draining faster than I would have expected in the first few days but after a couple of discharge/recharge cycles it now seems absolutely fine. If it helps the people that are having issues I’m happy to post more details about my setup and the versions of things that I’m using.
  • How do you find the instant pace on the f5+? I’ve now had my fr935 for a few weeks now, and it’s been pretty solid. Much better than my returned f5. I’m intrigued by the new f5+, especially for the music. But worried the gps issues won’t be fixed with the bezel there. And I’m liking the lighter weight 935.

I’m unable to comment on instant pace as I use Stryd set to pace and distance. To be honest though I didn’t have an issue with instant pace on my original f5 and it seemed comparable to the 935. Switching back to a fenix from the 935 took some getting used to in terms of the extra weight but I think I’m there now.
  • Do you have a track you can share? Looking good is subjective ;)

I've upgraded from F5 to F5 plus and the deference in speed is amazing. I'm very happy with my new watch.

Off the back of FlipStone’s question about tracks I took a look at some of my more recent runs.. some look great but there are a few that are dreadful. I may try switching Galileo off and use GPS only.
