Hi,

Dumb question maybe? apart from being lighter is any other benefit from this material? i guess maybe more scratch resistant (or less visible scratchs than balck bezel)??

Apart from battery life do you see any reason of not getting 5s over 5? i read somewhere lighter watche's OHRM have greater precision (less movement)...??

Best regards,
  • Does the Garmin brown leather band "age" (become darker over time)? I struggle to find positive things to say about how it looks coming out of the box.
I prefer a much darker brown leather for my black Sapphire 5+. Looks like I have to go for something without the quickfit.

This is what mine looks like after a year of occasional use for smarter wear on my Fenix 5 (and now 5 Plus). I had the same thought when I first got it and found that using a dark tan shoe polish on it gave it a subtlely different hue that I preferred. That’s the beauty of it being real leather, it does absorb/adopt the colour of leather polishes and stains that you apply.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1369743.jpg

My brown leather strap hasn’t really had enough use for me to comment on how it changes over time. I suspect it doesn’t age like my Apple brown leather iPhone case does (which I like by the way). It seems to stay quite bright and shiny. I may try some dark tan like Crispin suggests.

Which watch face are you using on that photo?
  • I thought someone might ask that :). It’s the Time Flies watchface https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/2...9-9478f39aee4d (lots of settings configurable from GCM too). I used it for the past year on my Fenix 5 and have never found another watchface that came close. It wasn’t available for the 5+ initially, so I contacted the watchface dev and they kindly rolled out an update to add 5+ support the next day!

This is a great thread on the Titanium benefits but I'm still trying to see the difference, visually, to the finish options of the 5x Plus. I'm quite confident I don't want "Black" but would like to see the difference between "Slate Grey" & "Carbon Grey DLC Titanium". Are there any 5x Plus owners who are able to post up some images? Thanks!
  • So, I have the DLC F5x+ which I just swapped for my previous Descent MK1 DLC (sensor dropouts and slow updates).

The MK1 DLC had one tiny dent in the DLC coating after about 3 month; it was tiny and could only be seen if you caught the light with it.

This Saturday when reaching for a dropped kids water bottle under the car, I scraped the clasp of my F5x+ on the curb. I panicked when I saw a lot of white powder scrapes all of it. But when I brushed them they came of and left what can only be described as the tiniest scratch right on the edge of the clasp.

I was very much relieved and impressed that the watch had worn the concrete curb and sustained next to no damage.

The bezel is still immaculate, but I swap to silicone strap and cover (look on eBay) when working in the shed.

I got my F5+ Titanium 2 weeks ago. Other than the added Topo map, faster GPS and Garmin pay features, the biggest like / pros to me is its lighter than my previous F5 (non Sapphire); even 10 grams I can feel the difference. However, there are 2 dislikes that I have to comment and share to see, as a new user of F5+I : (i) Sapphire Al2O3 surface does not come with AR coating, which makes the watch surface too reflective/glare and not easy to read especially in a dim lighting condition. For this reason, I put an anti glare diffuser that it alleviated the reflection issue. (ii) The titanium bezel/backcase color is no longer shinning and may have became oxidized after I wore the watch for water activity like shower and swimming. The surface looks grey. A thin layer of coating seems to form on the surface, can not be removed with cloth and even nail. I wondered if anyone can help and know how to remove the titanium oxide and restore the shinning bezel surface? Thank you for help!
