Titanium benefits?

Hi,

Dumb question maybe? apart from being lighter is any other benefit from this material? i guess maybe more scratch resistant (or less visible scratchs than balck bezel)??

Apart from battery life do you see any reason of not getting 5s over 5? i read somewhere lighter watche's OHRM have greater precision (less movement)...??

Best regards,
  • Hi guys,

Upgraded from a Fenix 5 Sapphire with metal band to the new titanium metal band option - thought I would see how the DLC holds up. Got a different box than the other SKUs - I guess Garmin going for the "Premium" look. However what doesn't look premium to me is that the markers accent 05/10/15.../Garmin is Orangish?! Which is not too clear from the photos on the site. This may not work as a day-to-day work watch even with the nice metal band. On the fence about returning it and getting a regular Sapphire but the coating on that, if anything like the 5's Slate Gray, was very susceptible to dings and scratches (mine was full of them after a year). I'm also on the fence about the circular "ridge" that is on the Plus bezel -- it'll be a pain to clean it can already see moisture and dust build-up. On the other hand, the old Yellow band looks fine with the new accents.

    Thoughts?

    Nice box ;)

I figured the 5 slate grey was more similar to the 5 Plus DLC?
The black or titanium are slightly different than the old Slate color and feel (the coating).

I'm wondering if the older grey metal band would pair well with the grey/titanium?

If you mean the band that came with the original Fenix 5... The band is darker than the grey on titanium 5 plus. It looks ok, and I don't think many people will notice but the color is off. I can try posting some pictures later but it's pretty hard to get this right in photos.

    Hey

Where did you manage to get this from and where are you based? I have a couple of them already, but unable to get my hands on this one

Here you go. Titanium with grey metal band. I personally don't like this combo that much, but it does work too.

I have the SS black sapphire (the one with the red highlights) and so far it’s holding up really well to all the knocks that I’ve given it. If I could have afforded the extra £300 I would have liked the black titanium dlc with titanium strap but I just can’t justify it. So far I’m really pleased with it.

Some photos of my SS Black Sapphire. If you see any marks on the bezel it's dust as so far it seems to have survived all knocks and scrapes unscathed. Personally I think the brown leather band works best with a silver bezel but I really wanted the black this time around.
