Hi,

Dumb question maybe? apart from being lighter is any other benefit from this material? i guess maybe more scratch resistant (or less visible scratchs than balck bezel)??

Apart from battery life do you see any reason of not getting 5s over 5? i read somewhere lighter watche's OHRM have greater precision (less movement)...??

Best regards,

I highly doubt that regular titanium version (the one with orange band) is DLC coated. There have already been reports of scratches in this thread and they're not the first one I've seen. The only DLC version is black, at $250 premium compared to regular. Though the premium mostly comes down to titanium band, which alone retails for $225. Remember with original Fenix or with 5S plus, the metal band version sells at a premium that's equivalent to the price of the metal band ($150). In this case, it's more, so the premium for DLC coated black bezel would be like $25 itself, but you can't buy it without also buying titanium band, which shoots the price through the roof.

If you have DLC is no chance to scratch or damage this material true DLC titanium

... the it's definietly not DLC ... if I look at my watch!
  • So I guess I'll be the one to point out about the DLC vs the non-DLC part... There are 2 part numbers [h=3]Part Number: 010-01988-02[/h] https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/603267/pn/010-01988-02#

    This is the DLC 5+ ($1099) [h=3]Part Number: 010-01988-04[/h] https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/603267/pn/010-01988-04#

This is the non-DLC 5+ ($849) like Jr was talking about.

So I really hope this puts an end to the endless rambling.
  • On the Garmin US website it looks like the titanium 5+ with the orange band is not DLC. DLC is only available in the carbon grey and comes with the metal band.
  • Moving away from the tedious DLC debate does the Titanium offer reduced RF attenuation over SS?
  • This DLC discussion was very benefical for me as I was just planning to order the Titanium with solar flare band and it seems that only version having DLC coating is the most expensive one with titanium band. I didn't notice that before. Maybe the SS version would be the best then.

I was wondering about this too. But from my quick research - no, titanium doesn't offer significantly reduced RF attenuation compared to steel. Both titanium and stainless steel have similar electric conductivity, so I'd assume that attenuation will be about the same.

That said, from practical standpoint, all reports including my own confirm that BT/ANT+ reception is much improved in 5 plus compared to 5 series. I'd like to see comparison with 935, but as far as I am concerned, the range is completely fine.
  • I believe the titanium it will looks great with a black band. But I want to see it. Please, can you put the black band on titanium and take some photos? Distant and nearby. Worn on your wrist but and without it. :)

    Hello

i chose a dark blue band, it looks very nice ;-)
  • Exactly, what I am going for as well, still not sure of silicone or leather (or both).
    :)

Looks great, thanks for the pics!
    ??????
??????I'm wondering if the older grey metal band would pair well with the grey/titanium? I liked my metal band for special occasions. But I don't think it would look good with my black/black SS 5 Plus. The black and grey slightly off in my brain.
