Processor speed of Plus series

Can't someone of you that have the fenix5 plus download this app and test the performance to see if they have a faster processor or not.

When looking at the FCC photos of the internal, the flash memory is HUGE.
Also interesting to see that they used three completely different antenna techniques for 2.4GHz within the series.
5x+ PCB antenna
5+ Chassis
5s+ Special LDS antenna
  • Here's mine:

    Fenix 5 Plus SW.3.10, connect IQ 2.4.5, CPU 2.0 / 22.2 Pips

  • Hello,

The antenna technique you speek of is for WIFI?
Thinking of purchasing the 5 plus, so I'm wondering how "2.0 / 21.7 Pips" compares to 5x scores? Will I notice?

    Thanks.
  • Fenix 5x SW 9.20 CIQ 2.4.4 CPU 1.5 / 14.1 Pips
  • You can try this app as well.

I note that in the past updates Garmin slowed down ConnectIQ so Fenix 5X now gets lower scores than in the past. But I haven't tried with the latest firmware yet.
  • I get 1.5/15.4 on my fenix 5 today using 9.20. So that probably means that it is roughly 30% faster.

I don't know if they use the same antenna for GPS as for Wifi, but is definetely the most likely even if the picture of the 5x+ seems to indicate another antenna "on top" for that one.
Also note completely different antenna positions for all variants. (bottom (5x+), right hand side (5s+), bezel (5+))

So it can definitely differ in performance between the units within the series...

What is strange thoúgh is that for the fenix 5s+ the output power for ANT+ and BLE is roughly double than the other variants (0.01 vs 0.005)
    "Test Report DSS"

GPS chipset is on top inside the cage, marked MTK ARM. Impossible to see which number, but most likely 3333AV
Big one is flash from Toshiba
    Winbond chipset is RAM.
    I guess the BLE/ANT+/Bluetooth is a cypress
I guess the big one on the back side is the main fw processor.

  • CIQ Benchmark app is developed by me.

I was quite far away from testing devices for a long time, but current results since 8.54 fw in f5 show significant performance degradation in float calculations.

This means absolute numbers are not working anymore due to several reasons - FW on device changes, CIQ VM changes, CIQ compiler changes.
Garmin CIQ team will look into it.
