Descent Mk1 dying after three years

Just curious if anyone else is seeing this issue on their Mk1s. I have two Garmin charging clips, and my Mk1 started having issues charging late last year with both of the clips at the same time. The problem has gotten worse and now requires some patience to get the watch and charging clip positioned so the watch will charge. The problem appears to be caused by pits worn into the charging contacts, most likely by the pins on the charging clips.

Garmin did offer to replace the watch with a remanufactured unit for a small fee or give me a discount on a different Garmin watch. Though the fact they did not question my problem makes me think I am not the first person to have this issue. Still debating what to do, the Descent is my everyday watch and my backup dive computer.

after diving, the watch needs to be freshened before charging. Mine are 2 years old. there is no such problem. But I just noticed that I lost the sticker with the serial number))

I'm not seeing this issue at all with mine. Mine was replaced by Garmin late December 2018 (for a button problem) so it is only just over 2 years old. My contacts seem to be fine.

My watch is over 2 years old and I am starting to see some charging issues. Need to wiggle the watch to start charging. I actually replaced the charging dock and still have the same issue. Certainly something is wrong with the watch and not the charging dock.

While I’ve long since sold the (2) that I had, my father has one and he has no issues charging his.

Ive had my Garmin for about 4 years. I use it every day and i spearfish with it. Absolutely the best watch every. However i was just swimming with the open water swimming app open and all of the sudden a red message came on that said something like do not dive!! i was just swimming on the surface so didnt think much of it. When i got out of the water my watch was dead. i thought maybe it was the lack of charge but nope. it literally died. Any suggestions? I live in Costa Rica and its hard to get things here

The only thing you can do with that type of failure is contact Garmin support. They are often willing to ship replacement refurbished devices to customers at a discount.

Not sure whether it helps, but I think it is worth of trying to reset the watch in the way described in the thread Device not charging - Descent MK1 - Wearables - Garmin Forums, perhaps it will revive it. Sorry if it does not.

I got the same issue with mine the last month and have three out of four where there is hole.

Have created a ticket at Garmin Support and waiting for them to get back.

Have always been cleaned after diving and use so that should not be the issue.
