If an AI failure gets you into the life threatening situation, something is wrong with your dive plan to begin with.
I have a dive computer with IA and have never lost a connection on a dive. That said there are 2 high pressure ports and I always have an extra tank pressure gauge attached for safety.
I am an occasional diver 2 trips per years and only bring mask, DC, fins, regulator and occasionally a wetsuit.
I would love to upgrade to an MK2 with IA, and only have one watch for vacation and not a Suunto and garmin!
Don’t be surprised if this is announced at DEMA. I’ll be in the FL area as I’m running a trip, so maybe I’ll stop by DEMA.
Won´t be surprised, too.
Same as with Garmin Epix. Was the first one with real mapping...
Then somebody at Garmin suddenly decided to stop developing the device and leave the users with (still) existing bugs themselves.Bug fixes, innovations of the Epix, suggestions for improvements were then adopted in subsequent models.
And Garmin? "Sound of silence..." for months
I hope for you, that it does not happen with the descent mk1!
Solution: use IA mainly and a shorter hose spg as backup
I think generally the use of IA definitely promotes / inculcates frequent air check and thus improve divers' overall safety aware, the additional 0.1% reliability of a rubber hose spg over IA, if any, will not be able to justify when divers tend to use it less frequently
