Reset the dive counter

Hi Garminers !

the MK1 as we all know automatically starts a dive activity when it exceeds a depth of 1.2 m (if i m not wrong). Unless you turn it off or start another activity, any time it reeches that depth will trigger a new dive and keep record of it. It s quite anoying because playing into water or snorkeling would very often trigger a dive.
i know we can delete the .fit files in the Garmin Activity folder (hopefuly) but the dive counter for the next recording will not take this into account.
this number must be kept somewhere, is there a way to manually change it to avoid setting back each «proper» dive's number to the correct value in Connect ?

thanks fellows and happy diving !!
  • This still works for me as I had reason to update my dive numbers.

Yesterday I did a double dive. At the end of my first dive there were a bunch of other divers blocking the exit and I had to wait until they were done. I then submerged again and swam to the exit. This gave me two dives #1633 and #1634. When I did my second actual dive it was #1635.

I using Garmin Connect on my iPhone, I deleted the non-dive #1634 and changed the subsequent dive to #1634.

I dived today and today's dive synced as #1635.
  • Not yet. I got an email from the Customer Service Team Leader over the weekend and he will call me at 9am today to discuss my options. He said they will replace it.

Even though the watch is severely hobbled, I'm still wearing it as it tells the time and counts my steps. I can still dive with it but can't go into Dive Mode so I get no entry location and I can't set the oxygen. Not being able to set the oxygen means that for the two dives I did on 32% it had me into deco and one dive I still had 12 minutes of deco remaining when I surfaced (107%). It was funny to see it wailing like a banshee as I surfaced. Both my Perdix and Atom 3.0 had my back and not actually in deco.
  • I did try from both web and mobile app, but the number it increments to is always the one it d have been if i d never have deleted a dive.
My last dive was #14 (???? 100 times less than you triple 7 !) and it would still increment to 57 for today s dive...
quite anoying and i have no idea why it would not work for me. Connect seems up to date on my phone. Anyone else experiencing this ?
    ?
  • Odd. It works for me.

The test for me will be after tomorrow's dive. I had my Mk1 replaced and so the first dive with the new one was #1. I changed it to #1637 so it will be interesting as to what the next dive will be.
  • I dived today and today's dive came up as #1638 so it still works for me.
  • Hello Guishop. I have the same problem. I have to change the dive number manually after every dive. Were you able to find a solution?

  • Okay I have a mk2i and when I first used it, I just set the dive counter to 100 as I didn’t have my log book handy and I wanted to play with my new toy. Now that I have my log book I would like to sync the dive counter to match my paper log book, I have manually edited all the dives to have the correct number, but each time I start a new dive the counter continues off from the last  dive number that the watch used and not from the dive number in my Garmin log file.. how do I change the dive number in the watch so that it will have the same numbers as my paper dive log book? Searched the web but didn’t find anything, have played with Garmin dive, Garmin connect and Garmin iqconnect, but cannot find the dive number or modify it? I actually read the user manual (very rare for me!) but it didn’t touch on this subject.. would really welcome any help, it’s a minor issue, but very annoying to have 2 dive log systems that don’t match!!

  • I had the same issue with my new mk2s. I finally figured out that I could go into the Garmin Dive iOS app and manually add a log for my last dive and then edit the dive number to be the correct value and this seems to have updated the Cumulative Dive Number under Settings - User Settings, to the number that I set in that dive. Now I needed to increase the number. I have no idea if you can decrease it.

I also noticed that I could set the dive time to 00:00 so that it did not change the Cumulative Total Dive Time which was already correct.

  • Interestingly I also discovered that deleting that one Dive Log entry reset the Cumulative Dive Number to 0. So, I think that your first Dive Log can be used to set the number correctly.
