"There was an error installing the update." for Map Western Europe 2.0 I had hope that a fix will solve this, but seems not... I had a look at the fenix sub-forum and the problem seems to be existing for a long time. Will there ever be a fix for it?
You probably have trouble upgrading the "Routable Cycle Map of Europe map 2018.10" to the "Routable Cycle Map of Europe 2018.20"!
I solved the problem by connecting the Descent MK1 to a PC. Then I deleted the following files in the Garmin directory: gmapcycle.img (size 3.872.587.776) and D6019000A.img (size 3.425.959.936).
After that I started Garmin Express again and launched the upgrade. This time, the upgrade was free of errors.
I resetted my watch to factory settings (again) and tried to install this map, but it didn't work. My watch doesn't have those files, so I cannot delete them.
The message "There was an error installing the update" ist not helpful at all. We are living in the 21st century and current software technology is (in theory at least) capable of dumping some error information. I do not even know where there is a problem with my watch, Garmin Express, the Garmin servers or the internet/usb connection or...
To be honest mine initially also failed @ 1-5%, however knowing that maps were being downloaded to PC I left it in this state for some time (until whole ~7GB worth of files had downloaded to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Map\) and retried - hence it now failing @ 50% precisely.
What do you see in logs (under C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Logs\Express, Expressdetailed.log in my case)?
