I've just gotten my Descent Mk1 and I'm looking forward to using it on a trip to the Mergui Archipelago on a 10 day diving excursion. I recently returned from a trip to Komodo that saw several unique and amazing dives not generally accessible to anyone not on a liveaboard diving yacht. The Descent is my long desired GPS enabled diving computer that can actually mark your dive site coordinates. My question is this, does Garmin have or is there a 3rd party app that can take my Descent Mk1's diving log and allow me to share the names and experience of these remote diving sites with other divers? Or, on uploading the Descent Mk1's logs, will automatically recognize and identify the names of these diving sites so I don't have to write it down or input the location data myself? Seems like this would be a good way for sharing diving history and "dives of interest" with other divers who are looking to dive in remote areas of the world.
Subsurface can download dives (including the GPS entry point data) from the Garmin Mk1, and then export that information in a number of formats. One of which is direct upload to an account on divelogs.de, which can definitely be configured to allow sharing with other divers.
If your are on a Mac I suggest Mac dive. It’s excellent and brings over both in AND out points for dive. We have been diving in remote areas of Indonesia for a year now and I use my descent to record some very cool dives in very remotes ares.
