NDL Setup

Last week I was diving in the red sea with my girlfriend who now has my D6i since i recieved my MK1. Both the d6i and the instructors d4i were reading 7 minutes NDL at 30m while my mk1 was reading 2:30. When we started to decrease our depth, the suuntos quickly jumped to 12 minutes while the MK1 was still mid 3s. When I surfaced on the boat i checked the settings and the conservation was on Medium. I switched it to low.

I did not get another change to compare as depth. I noticed theres a custom ndl setting. has anyone figured out what the custom setting it to match the conservation on a suunto?
  • When I first got my Descent in January, I tested out the “conservative factors“ and I found that “LOW” best matched my Sherwood computers.
  • I don't believe you will ever get a close match with Suunto. Suunto uses their own version of RGBM with is quite different from Buhlmann/GF used by the Mk1. You may get it close under some circumstances but change your depth profile and it will give different results. If you add repetitive dives it will change again.

There are lots of threads on Scubaboard that compare Suunto to other computers. Shearwater computers use the same algorithm as the Mk1 and the same conservatism as the Mk1.

My Descent and Shearwater Perdix are usually within a few seconds of each other.
