Issues with Compass and Stored HR Data

Hello everyone,

I've been having no luck recently with my Descent Mk1... First, it stopped syncing with Connect on my iPhone SE the first week of August. Activities and sleep were not syncing, I always had to connect to my laptop and use Express. This was solved by deleting my activity folder on the watch. Garmin support was suspecting a corrupt file and they were right (I guess?).

Now, I've noticed on the last three dive that my compass will not work properly when I start a single-tank activity. I found that the hard way (underwater) three dives ago when I tried navigating and noticed that the compass would not move more than a few degrees left and right. I had to restart the watch that evening to fix this, trying to calibrate the compass was not working at all. Now, before the last two dive I checked after starting the activity that the compass is working properly and it doesn't. So I had to restart the watch again and then restart the activity and then it works with no issue during the dive. This is not giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling before a dive; what else might be wrong?

My other issue is getting the watch to download the strap stored HR data. It downloads the data, starts processing it and then the watch crash and restart. And when it restarts, the HR data is not there.

So, the Descent Mk1; iPhone SE; Connect app on the phone and Express app on the laptop are all updated to the latest version. I've tried multiple full power cycles (turn it off and on again) on every devices with no changes.

Anyone has any ideas on what might be the issue? Am I at the point where I need to do a full factory reset on the Descent Mk1? I'm quickly starting to lose confidence in my Descent Mk1 and I'm about to switch back to my very old dive computer... That would be a shame since I do love my Descent!
  • Alright, for anyone interested, Garmin did replace my Descent at no charge to me. The process was fairly painless. My new one has been working flawlessly since I received it, other than the odd ski run miscount from time to time. In dive mode, the compass has been working and I can now download my stored hr data with no issues. Now, if only we could get a max depth as data field somewhere...

  • Sorry that no one helped you with your questions, myself included. I must have missed this.

I 100% agree on being able to see your Max Depth during a dive, as every other dive computer does this, you’d think a $1000 computer would too. I suggested this months ago, so hopefully this extensive update that they’ve supposedly been working on since January, will include this beneficial data.
