Various Bugs

In software version 4.0 I still notice these bugs:
- Elevation Graph of routes imported from basecamp are always wrong/missing (they all appear as a flat line). If I convert the route into a track before sending it to the device the elevation graph shows correctly.
- The POI search function Spell Name still doesn't work. The watch start the search but never ends it. It appears to work only for cities.
  • TopIT I just tested both of these features and I was able to get both of them to work. Could you please give me detailed steps what you are doing so I can reproduce what you are seeing?
  • -Wrong elevation graph: I create a hiking route in basecamp, then send it to the device via "Send to device" command in basecamp. When I check the route in the watch it is present, correct name, correct track, but the elevation graph is always wrong, it always appears as a flat line starting with an altitude of 0, with a steep peak just at the end of the flat line showing the elevation of my starting point. It's the same for whatever route I create. I noticed that if I convert the ROUTE into a TRACK and the send the track to the device, it displays the correct altitude graph for my track, but then on the map I get the annoying grey ghost arrow running on the path... I don't understand why when transferring to the device routes which contains an altitude profile the elevation datas are corrupted once transferred. I'm using basecamp for Mac, but I think the problem is in how the watch processes the imported routes.
-Regardin the POI search bug I do the following: I go to navigation, POI, select a category, for example restaurant, then select spell name, I enter the name of a restaurant that i know it's present in the database and quite near to my position and start the search. The screen displays "searching" for minutes and minutes and never stops, till the device returns to the watch face after a very long time. I tried with the names (previously verified they are present in the poi database) of some restaurants, bars, hotels, and alway no success. Curiously it works for cities, it returns the result of the search in a reasonable time. This would be a very useful function when hiking or around the city and looking for a specific place. (function already advised In the user's manual, though it doesn't work...).
  • TopIT I just got done testing both of these two issues and I still was not able to reproduce them.

Could you please let us know which software version you have?
Also, do you have Topo coverage on your device around you and do you have that turn on using the 'Navigate' app (Setting -> Activities & App -> Navigate -> Navigate Settings -> Map -> Configure Maps?

On the elevation issue, I reported this issue to the Fenix software team some time ago. Basecamp does odd things to the data if you just drag it to your watch. The solution/workaround for me was to export the route from BaseCamp and then into connect on the web. This allowed the elevation profile to work correctly which is important on my 5x plus if i want to use the climbpro feature.

  • Thank you nmyeti, feel free to shoot me a private message with that thread and I will see where it stands from this side.
  • I’m using software 4.0. It was the same with previous versions. I have topo coverage around me and the maps are active.
  • TopIT For the elevation information, follow nmyeti suggestion since after talking to him I got more facts on how to replace what you are experiencing. On the search for points of interest, I am not able to reproduce with my US device. Could you please contact Garmin's Product Support teams so we can work with you directly to get this worked out, please?
  • nmyeti can you please give me the detailed procedure you use to finally have routes with altitude graph on the device? If export the route from basecamp as a gpx file and then try to import in garmin connect I always get an error message. Anyway is Garmin working on this issue, which I think for people using the watch for serious hiking and trekking it is important that it works as it should => create a Hike in Basecamp => Send it to device => Enjoy the trail without tricks to circumnavigate the bug. It seem that Garmin is not compatible with itself...
For Garmin do you think we will soon get an update for these? I have been waiting for months now to fully enjoy my expensive toy. Regarding the POI search spell name I will contact your support team. Can you provide me the email address please?
  • TopIT export the selection not the primary. Once you do that you'll have a GPX file you can then import. Hopefully the pictures help. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1399432.jpg
