Extended Display Mode

Will the Descent Mk1 also support the Extended Display Mode, because I would like to use it as my tri watch and want to pair it with my edge 1030?

  • After quick recognition, it seems to me that Descent from the very beginning is based on version 5.40 of FX5 software. None of the features added in subsequent versions of firmware is available in Descent MK1. One of the members of the group, in one of the posts mentioned, that frequent changes of firmware can affect the stability of diving functions. It's hard not to agree with that, but it would be good if Garmin confirmed it. I would then stop deluding myself that a few new features that I'm actively using on FX5 will be implemented in Descent.

However, it should be taken into account that in addition to new functionalities, the new firmware removes errors found in earlier versions. And looking at the changes made in the stable versions from 6 to the current 10, a large number of bugs have been removed. Garmin's inaction in this matter is of most concern to me, because they are aware of the errors and imperfections of the software, and they do nothing to change it.
  • maryooshek - Whilst I agree that software updates could lead to issues in the dive functionality, I remember Garmin banging on in the early days of this watch, stating that the dive part of the software is self-contained. That once a dive has begun, all third party external stuff is locked out. Surely, if they are updating perhaps other areas of the watch, they are able to do so without buggering up the dive side.

Oh, hang on. We're talking about Garmin here, of course they probably can't.:p

Just to answer my question. it does support the display. You just need to wait a little longer to pair it.
