Hi Garmin team! As an owner of Descent MK1 I would like to ask if you are planning to add all the improvements and new functionalities that Fenix 5X received through all firmware updates till now? I have a Fenix 5X for more than one year and during this time improvements were enormous, and it looks like a Descent is a waaaay behind F5X right now...
I have to “third” this topic as a watch being out 7/8 months has seen little improvements and no additions.
Unfortunately, I have a feeling that no matter how many topics, emails or phone calls we make, it will in no way influence Garmin to improve and/or enhance the MK1 like their other watches.
Frankly, I feel like this watch has been abandoned.
My personal opinion, since I am in no way associated with Garmin, is there is a big difference between a Fenix 5x, and the Descent MK1. The MK1, being a dive computer first, need to be rock solid in terms of firmware, since any bug or problem with firmware has life threatening consequences. So it would be normal for the firmware updates to be a lot behind, since they need to really test out every possible scenario to make sure it is bug free, if you get incorrect data, a firmware crash/Reboot or something not working correctly on the Fenix 5x, you get pissed off at the end of the run/ride, but when you are 30 meters underwater and dive computer crashes or tells you you still have time when you don't, you can die.
The watch has tremendous possibilities in the long run, but to get to that stage I think it will take a couple of years. It is typical Garmin to push out a product and work on the software issues on the way, So I guess you will just have to be patient and hope the MK1 lasts you through this process.
I have learned the hard way, to stop my impulses and wait for the second generation to come out before buying something completely new. For now, I will stay with the Fenix 5x for running/Everyday use, and use my Suunto Vyper Novo for diving.
