The Ultimate Watch

Hi,

I know that this is not exactly the correct sub-forum for this thread but there is no one entitled "misc" or something like that. Maybe someone can move it to a more suitable forum.
I would like to just state some thoughts and would like to hear the opinions of the community and/or Garmin about it.

When one looks at the evolution of the different products of Garmin, it can be seen that there is a lot of technical knowledge in the areas of land/trail, water and aviation; all related to professional applications as well as to sports which is really great. Especially in the sports area, we have seen the evolution of different product lines each focusing on some application area in the past. Furthermore, it can also be seen that there are now some highly priced products which span over more than one area (e.g. Descent series) and group together two or more products for people who are active in many areas. I think this is logical and reasonable from many points of view.

Based on this evolution, can we probably see something like the "ultimate watch" in the future which combines all the technical expertise of Garmin in one watch? I mean, combining not only the the land/trail functionalities of the fenix series and the water functionalities of the descent series but also adding the aviation features of the d2 series (or another upcoming wearable aviation product)? Would it be technically possible?

I'm looking forward to hear your opinions :).
  • From a software standpoint, it’s totally feasible. The issue though is from a business standpoint...1. What would someone pay for the Ultimate Watch? 2. A company would sell a lot more with products priced at $500-700, as opposed to $1900.

I am am seeing an upward trend with Garmin’s pricing on the Fenix lineup and eventually can or will price itself out of a normal consumers budget.
