Descent MK+ still running CIQ 2.3 (?)

Hello Garmin,

As a developer, I updated my apps to use some of the new features introduced by the SDK 2.4 (namely the new storage API).

When I had users starting to report about the apps crashing, I found out the Descent might still be running CIQ 2.3.

Are there any plan to update the Descent to CIQ 2.4 anytime soon ?

  • This is really a question for The CIQ Developer Forum. The Garmin CIQ folks are active there.

But yes, the Descent is still CIQ 2.3.x. For now, you can remove the Descent as a target, or there are tricks where you can use the 2.4.x functions on devices that support them, or fall back to 2.3.x functions (depending on what you are trying to do.). You should see this in the CIQ Simulator, and if not, you'll want to file a bug report in the CIQ bug report sub forum.. In the devices.xml file in the 2.4.6 SDK, I see the Descent is listed as having 2.3.4

Will it get CIQ 2.4.x? Not sure, as it might just go to CIQ 3.0.x as that's in beta right now.
  • Interesting thing of note:
Models with a higher risk of endangering the life of its owners, like the D2 series (aviation) and the Descent (diving), seem to lag in the firmware update cycle compared to their less risky counterparts.
